Neighborhood board objects to Kailua Target

The Kailua Neighborhood Board sent a letter to Honolulu Mayor Peter Carlisle Wednesday regarding its objections to the proposed Kailua Target store.

In the letter, the board states that it doesn’t support the store’s development because the store is larger than the specification for retail businesses stated in the Koolaupoko Sustainable Communities Plan. The plan states that retail and warehouse businesses should not be more than 90,000 square feet; the proposed Kailua Target is 130,000 square feet.

The Kailua Neighborhood Board also recommends that neither the state nor county governments should give permits to the proposed store because of its size.

Target representatives were not immediately available for comment.
