  1. I would like to share with you an e-mail I recently sent via targetkailua.com, the company's supposed community info forum. The building looks like it should be off the freeway on the way to Kapolei !!! I agree with everything I’ve read about stopping Target in Kailua, and with all the numerous group’s and organizations issues and concerns. The Media spin that it’s a ‘done deal’ is created so good people like you will back off- give up in your protest. It’s all written at Target company head quarters, as there is no ‘real’ reporting these days in the local media, maybe just sports reporting. We know that Kailua is now a tourist destination, how else would a petition on www.change get mainland people involved. Which is great ! Kailua should use tourism as another means to stop Target -get Hawaii Visitor’s Bureau involved? With my e-mail, I’m trying to hit Target were it will hurt- In the corporate identity they are trying to convey to the public and the media Branding that they are a company that cares about sustainability, environment and the rest. If this can change from a ‘locale’ issue to a National one were Target feels a back-lash and lose market share to other more friendly retailers- they will sit up and listen. A David and Goliath type story? Don’t give up, the ambiance and charm of Kailua town will be lost forever if Target is allowed to build. Aloha, & Merry Christmas, R.Taggart

  2. The e-mail ; At the moment, the community is against Target building its huge store in Kailua. And the momentum to stop it is growing. Looking at www.change .org petition to stop Target, the majority of signatories were not located in Kailua, but all over the US mainland. Obviously, this issue of big bully (you) not listening to a small community (Kailua), should be something of great concern for a company such as yours who, through your PR spin would like to be seen as a benevolent and good force for the community. Common, it’s all about greed and we know it. Low minimum wage jobs-cheap goods from china. If Target would really like to make a statement about sustainability, environment, a concerned citizen, champion of the community in which it’s stores are located- Pull Out of this Deal. That would do more for your corporate branding then any mega bucks advertising campaign. Your press release could look like this, ‘Retail powerhouse Target says good bye to Kailua’ stating-“We agree that Kailua town is a special place, should remain a small retail mix that is appropriate for its size. For local and tourist alike, who would like to see the character of this piece of “Small Town America” remain, for generations to enjoy. We will look for a location that will best suite the type of High Volume Retail that is Target’s business model somewhere else in the islands, Aloha". Your company really would benefit, and be seen as true, honest and fair. All the best, Merry Christmas
    R. Taggart
